Mitch Ryder

Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels was a Rock group originally from Detroit. What you may not know is they were originally called " Billy Lee and the Rivieras" and were hired by Fred Kotenko ('60 ) in 1964 to play at his teen night club called "The Chatterbox" in Garden City (corner of Warren & Middlebelt Rds). Billy Lee, whose real name is Billy Levise, worked for Fred on weekends at the club.

Record producer Bob Crewe (he also produced Franki Valli & the Four Seasons) discovered Billy, changed his name to Mitch Ryder, and began making records with him - I believe the first was called "Jenny Jenny".

The songs that Mitch Ryder (Billy Lee) used to play for teens in Garden City are now big hits on radios all over the USA. Now you know the rest of the story...
